Who can get it
Citizenship is the first gate. The award is open to students from these 27 countries:
Argentina, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Kenya, Maldives, Mexico, Nepal, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, Venezuela.
On top of citizenship, all of the following must hold:
- You are an international student on a subclass 500 visa (or another visa that carries study rights).
- You apply to an eligible AQF undergraduate, combined, or postgraduate coursework course listed in the UWA Handbook.
- You enrol full-time (exceptions exist for medical or family circumstances).
- You have not discontinued an equivalent-level course with an immediate break.
One point the terms leave open: the eligible list names "China." Whether a Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan passport qualifies is not written in the terms — confirm with UWA admissions before relying on it.

The award does not apply to these courses:

- Doctor of Dental Medicine 91860
- Doctor of Optometry 91590
- Juris Doctor 20820
- Undergraduate offers that include an assured pathway to Doctor of Medicine / Doctor of Dental Medicine
How it is awarded
You do not submit a separate scholarship application. UWA assesses eligibility automatically from your admission application, and if you qualify, the award appears in your offer letter.
Selection is based on academic achievement, measured by an equivalent ATAR or WAM as determined by UWA (predicted ATAR only in exceptional cases). The number of awards each year is set by UWA Admissions.
If you receive an offer that includes the award, you must accept within 30 days of the offer.
How long the discount lasts
The discount runs for the standard full-time duration of the accepted course — not a fixed "3 years undergraduate / 2 years postgraduate" rule. The actual length follows the course you are admitted to, with these specific cases in the terms:

Keeping the award after you start
To continue receiving the discount each semester, you must:
- Continue to meet the enrolment eligibility rules.
- Make satisfactory academic progress.
- Maintain a WAM of 60.
- Confirm your eligibility twice a year.
A suspension is possible only after your first result release, for a maximum of 2 semesters, and requires committee approval.
Combining it with other scholarships
The award cannot be held together with another UWA tuition fee reduction or academic scholarship — except the UWA English Language Award. If you are also eligible for a GES, ASEAN, or other UWA award, you receive the higher-value one.
